The Heartsaver AED Course teaches you the basic techniques of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the relief of choking for adults, children and infants. An AED is a computerised defibrillator which analyses the heart rhythm of a person in cardiac arrest and uses voice prompts to advise you if a shock is needed. The AED is an important link in the chain of survival and this course teaches you how to use them effectively. The Heartsaver AED Course takes approximately 4 hours to complete and you will receive an Irish Heart Foundation / American Heart Association course completion card upon successfully completing the course.

Course Details

Course Objectives

On completion of this course participants will be able to:
  • Identify and treat an adult or child victim of sudden cardiac arrest by providing CPR and using an AED
  • Treat an adult or child victim of choking to Irish Heart Foundation/ American Heart Association guidelines.

Course Programme

  • Introduction to BLS
  • Adult CPR
  • Child CPR  Use of a barrier device for adult and child  Emergency call
  • Using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  •  Treatment of choking (Adult/Child)  Infant choking  Infant CPR
Materials
All participants will receive a student workbook, CD-ROM, CPR pocket mask and wallet card.

Please Note

Mileage @ €0.50 per km and accommodation @ €100 per night may be charged for courses.

English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter they may do so but prior notice must be given to Anderco.

Who Should Attend?

Anybody who needs to learn how to operate an Automated External Defibrillator and how to perform CPR require a formal qualification. Prior first aid training is not necessary.

Assessment / Certification

Participants who successfully complete the course including the skills evaluation will receive an Irish Heart Foundation AED certification valid for 2 years.
