Manual Handling Instructor and Assessors Refresher
This three-day programme refreshes the skills of qualified instructors. It also equips them to conduct Manual Handling Risk Assessments as required by the 2007 General Application Regulations. The HSA’s guidance for training for Manual Handling Instructors states that all Instructors should receive proper refresher training every 3 – 5 years.
Certificates will be awarded to those participants who reach the required level of competence. Participants attending this course should wear comfortable clothing and bring along a copy of the presentation they currently use in training. This course also includes a written exam and practical assessments. This course programme conforms to the guidance on manual handling training laid down by the HSA.

Course Objectives
On completion of this course participants will be able to:

Instruct others in the theory and techniques of safe Manual Handling

Apply any new information with respect to Manual Handling training, to further enhance knowledge, presentation and practical demonstration skills

Carry our a basic Manual Handling risk assessment in the workplace

Ergonomics: Ergonomic assessment – Adapting the demands of a task to the capabilities of the worker – Reduction of risk – Improvement of unsafe working practices and environments – Job design – Case study and assessment

Working safely: Principles of safe lifting and moving techniques – Practical lifting, pushing and pulling exercises – Video of practical exercises – Assessment of practical – Development of practical lifting skills – Allocation of topics for Day 2 instructional skills assessment

Manual handling practical exercises: Lifting from a floor – Lifting from a table – Lifting from low to high – Handling sacks and drums – Pushing and pulling

Presentations by participants with feedback and assessment of instructional skills

Mileage @ €0.50 per km and accommodation @ €100 per night may be charged for courses.
English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter they may do so but prior notice must be given to Anderco.

Qualified Manual Handling Instructors who need to refresh their skills and before going forward for FETAC RPL process.
Pre Course Requirements
Participants must hold a valid Manual Handling Instructors Certificate
Assessment / Certification
Participants complete a theoretical and practical exam.
On successful completion of the exam participant certificates will be validated for five years from their original expiry date.
