This comprehensive three day programme is designed to provide learners with the best knowledge and skills necessary to fulfil their role as a Safety Representative. It is designed to outline the role and function of the Safety Representative and effectively gives attendees the necessary skills and knowledge to represent employees on health and safety issues.
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act employees at a place of work are entitled to select and appoint one of their colleagues to act as a safety representative. Therefore, it is essential that Safety Representatives attend training to gain knowledge and skills necessary to perform the function effectively. The course conforms to the guidance set by the Health and Safety Authority and provides a very comprehensive foundation to Health and Safety.

Course Objectives

On completion of this course participants will:
  • Be familiar with the core health and safety legislation and the role of the Health and Safety Authority.
  • Describe the role of the Health and Safety Authority.
  • Understand the importance of the safety statement, hazard identification and risk assessment.
  • Describe the role, the rights and function of the safety representative.
  • Describe the consultative process to promote health and safety in the workplace within the company
  • Understand the concepts of the promotion of safety, health and welfare in the workplace.
  • Describe the importance of routine workplace inspections
  • Outline the factors of accidents causation, describe prevention strategies and policies.
  • Investigate accidents and recommend preventative measures
  • Identify hazards and assess the risks associated with common workplace hazards
  • Understand the consultative and communications process and effective participation in meetings.

Method of Training

The course will incorporate a wide range of interactive training tools including games, ice breakers and visual presentations. Group work, syndicate exercises, individual tasks, problem based learning, case studies and questionnaires to reinforce key messages, with a strong emphasis on practical application throughout.

Please Note

Mileage @ €0.50 per km and accommodation @ €100 per night may be charged for courses.

English is the language in which training is delivered and participants must have a good command of the English language. If participants wish to bring an interpreter they may do so but prior notice must be given to Anderco.

Who Should Attend?

For anyone fulfilling the role of Safety Representative or appointed as Safety Representative in the workplace and who has responsibility for fostering proactive communication between management and employees on health and safety issues.
